You do not need to purchase branded products to use the Litter-Robot either - just about any clumping litter and large bags will work. Unlike our competitors, the Litter-Robot does not require water hookup. It's a time and money saver but if you're not mechanically inclined, be prepared for a crash course in basic electronics. The main reason I love my unit is that I was never big into scooping, so I'd let my standard litter box sit a little longer than I should've and just dump/replace the entire litter supply. I haven't had to totally replace a sensor yet, so I can't speak to the speed/quality of customer service. Personally, I'm fine with the time I have to put in to fix it, since I like learning about the inner workings. If you're expecting a hands-off experience or you're not very handy, Litter Robot may not be your cup of tea. I've come to expect at least 10 minutes per week of troubleshooting which sensor I need to deep clean to clear a fault, but YMMV. Whether it's something simple like a pinch detection sensor, or a faulty hall effect sensor having trouble tracking the globe. The only caveat is that it throws an error code at me almost weekly. I only have to swap a bag once every 5-7 days, and deep clean once every month or two. I got it refurbished and love it to death. (Or maybe have a multi-cat unit with a deeper drawer?!?!) Overall, that’s really my only complaint, is that I wish the drawer was a bit deeper, so those with multiple cats don’t have to constantly be emptying the drawer. I still have a box too (as a backup) so the scooping is now just the same as before. Helped reduce allergy problems for my husband, and poo-smells were quickly resolved while I was working (previously, I would just get texts saying “please deal with the box when you get home” because the cats would poop and my husband can’t scoop the box)Ĭons: I have 3 cats now (rescued a kitten) and I deal with the robot just about everyday now. There were issues a few months in, but the customer service team is quick and fantastic. Pros: With 2 cats I only dealt with it twice a week. My cats took to it fairly quickly, about a week. I went with with Connect 3 because it was app controlled, enclosed, and can use the same litter I was using previously. I didn’t like the litter genie because of the water connection required and I feel that that has more room for problems that I can’t easily fix. I saw an ad on Facebook for the LR and so I did more research. I had been thinking about the “Breeze” system and realized that wasn’t going to work for us because I have a snooty kitty that likes to shoot for the moon when he pees. When I got mine last year, I had 2 cats and worked 12 hour days. Their second and third options are currently Scoop Free, but they never touch them anymore since the LR. I'm actually considering a second one as you're supposed to give cats more than one litter box option. Time savings + happier cats + no smells = game changer for us.įor us, the price was definitely worth it and would buy it again if it ever broke down. The Litter Robot sends me a notification about every 3 days that the drawer is full, which takes about 5 minutes to address, or about 50 minutes a month. I used to scoop 3 litter boxes daily, at an average of 5 minutes = 2.5 hours a month of scooping. All 3 cats took to it after several days, as they were probably relieved (no pun intended) to have real litter vs crystals again. Litter Robot - I got a refurbished Connect on a whim after seeing a commercial last fall, and wasn't sure what to expect based on my past failed investments. Expensive too if you're replacing with cartridges vs buying the reusable pan. Scoop Free - better than Litter Maid, but the cats never got used to the special crystals and would go outside the box from time to time. The frequently clogged rake and falling off lids blocking the receptacle created more messes and smells than they solved. Litter Maid - tried that one 15+ years ago, so they may be better now. The Litter Robot is the only one that actually delivered on the promises of time savings and no smells, at least for this cat household. We've tried several different automatic litter boxes over the many years of having cats, and kept going back to the regular boxes as the automatic ones usually created more work and smelled worse than just scooping yourself.
